Shopify integration for databases, warehouses and BI tools

E-commerce platform for orders, catalog, and customer data. Datrise captures Shopify entities such as orders, products, customers, inventory levels, and fulfillment events, then lands normalized and typed models for warehouse reporting, attribution, and AI workflows.

The Shopify Admin API 2026-07 (REST, legacy since Oct 2024; GraphQL is the current recommended style) authenticates with OAuth 2.0, API key, incremental runs key on updated_at field (REST updated_at_min/updated_at_max params; GraphQL updated_at:> search filter), or Bulk Operations, and Shopify caps calls at REST: 40-request leaky bucket at 2 requests/second on standard stores (400 requests / 20 requests/second on Shopify Plus); GraphQL: cost-based throttling at 100 points/second on standard stores (1,000 points/second on Plus), single query capped at 1,000 points.

Of the 5 objects, 4 sync as upserts keyed on the primary key and 1 as append-only streams, so each incremental run moves only what changed since the last watermark. Every object lands in its own table (for example `shopify_orders`) with a schema derived from the Shopify API rather than a flattened CSV, in any of the 43 supported destinations.

What Shopify data Datrise extracts

Each object lands in its own typed table. Sync mode is derived from the object: history-style objects append, everything else upserts.

productsshopify_productsUpsert by primary key, incremental on updated-at

APIShopify Admin API 2026-07 (REST, legacy since Oct 2024; GraphQL is the current recommended style)
AuthenticationOAuth 2.0, API key — Custom apps use a pre-generated Admin API access token (shpat_) in the X-Shopify-Access-Token header; public/embedded apps obtain offline or online tokens via OAuth 2.0.
Paginationlink_header — REST paginates via an opaque page_info cursor returned in the response Link header (limit default 50, max 250); GraphQL uses Relay-style cursor connections instead.
Rate limitREST: 40-request leaky bucket at 2 requests/second on standard stores (400 requests / 20 requests/second on Shopify Plus); GraphQL: cost-based throttling at 100 points/second on standard stores (1,000 points/second on Plus), single query capped at 1,000 points
Incremental cursorupdated_at field (REST updated_at_min/updated_at_max params; GraphQL updated_at:> search filter), or Bulk Operations — updated_at filters have been reported to behave inconsistently in some bulk-query contexts, so webhooks are the more reliable mechanism for real-time change capture.
WebhooksYes — Admin API webhooks (HMAC-verified, per-topic subscriptions)
Bulk exportYes — Bulk Operations API (bulkOperationRunQuery, JSONL output)
Deletes detectableYes — Dedicated deletion webhook topics per resource, e.g. products/delete, orders/delete, customers/delete

What bites when replicating Shopify

  • REST Admin API leaky bucket is 40 requests with a 2 requests/second leak rate on standard stores (400 requests / 20 requests/second on Plus); exceeding it returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header.
  • GraphQL Admin API throttles by query cost at 100 points/second (standard) or 1,000 points/second (Plus), and no single query may exceed 1,000 points regardless of plan.
  • REST Admin API has been legacy since October 1, 2024, and since April 1, 2025 all new public apps must be built on GraphQL.
  • Bulk Operations output is JSONL with an injected __parentId field on child rows, and the signed download URL expires after 1 week; only 5 concurrent bulk operations are allowed per app per shop.

Shopify connector FAQ

What Shopify data does the connector extract?
5 objects: orders, products, customers, inventory levels and fulfillment events. Each lands in its own table with types preserved; history-style objects (1: fulfillment events) load as append-only streams.
Is the Shopify integration incremental?
Yes. After the initial full load, every run reads only records changed since the last watermark (updated-at or event timestamp) and applies an upsert or an append depending on the object.
Where can I load Shopify data?
Into 43 destinations: relational databases, cloud warehouses, data lakes, spreadsheets and BI tools. Each Shopify → destination pair has its own page with the object-to-table mapping.
